The Mayflower at Bayard's Cove,Dartmouth,
August of 1620
The Mayflower and her smaller companion the Speedwell had set out from Southampton in 1620. The Speedwell began to take on water had to put into Dartmouth in Devon, arriving there on 23rd August 1620.
Both ships lay at anchor in the harbor, off Bayard's Cove, while repairs were carried out to the Speedwell… They were in Dartmouth for about ten days and then set sail once again for the New World. The Mayflower alone set sail from Plymouth, England on 16th September .
I enjoyed the research as much as painting this view of Mayflower in Bayard's cove with the Speedwell in the back ground.
